Two incidents in Tuesday’s Neftekhimik vs. Traktor game in Nizhnekamsk attracted the scrutiny of the KHL Disciplinary Committee.
In the 6th minute, Nizhnekamsk forward Yaroslav Alshevsky was sent off for the remainder of the game after using his elbow to strike Chelyabinsk defenseman Evgeny Katichev in the face. The Committee upholds the referee’s punishment, a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes) for causing injury by checking to the head and neck area, and has also banned Alshevsky for two games.
In the 34th minute, home defenseman Vitaly Shulakov was handed a major plus game misconduct penalty (5+20 minutes), also for causing injury by checking to the head and neck area, following a hit on Traktor forward Anton Glinkin. The Committee again upheld the referee’s decision, but did not deem the foul worthy of any additional sanctions.
