A Spartan victory for Russian legends

On Saturday, December 7th, the oldest hockey club in the Czech Extraliga, HC Sparta Prague, marked its 110th anniversary, and the celebrations featured a game between stars from Sparta’s past and Gazprom Export - the team of Russian hockey legends.

The Sparta team, under the guidance of renowned coach Luděk Bukač, included three-time Stanley Cup winner Jiří Hrdina, Olympic champion František Kučera, former Czechoslovakian international goalie Petr Bříza, Stanislav Hajdušek, Richard Žemlička, Jaroslav Nedvěd and Andrej Potajčuk,

Among the Russian veterans joining KHL president Alexander Medvedev in the Gazprom Export team were Valery Kamensky, Andrei Kovalenko, Alexei Zhamnov, Vladimir Malakhov and Lev Berdichevsky, with Andrei Malkov and Maxim Mikhailovsky to guard the net.

A crowd of 2,500 fans were in the Tipsport Arena to watch the game, which finished in an emphatic 7-1 victory for the Russians.
