Vasily Tikhonov, the former Dinamo Riga, CSKA, Ak Bars, Avangard, Espoo, Esset and San Jose Sharks coach, tragically died in Moscow early on Wednesday morning. Vasily was part of a formidable hockey dynasty, son of the great USSR coach Viktor Tikhonov, and father of one of the brightest prospects in Russian hockey, former Phoenix Coyotes forward Viktor Tikhonov, who has just signed up for a third season with SKA Saint Petersburg.
The Kontinental Hockey League mourns the premature passing of Vasily Tikhonov and would like to express deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
